The 28th annual meeting of the NBTE was held on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd November 2019.

Besides 35 high-quality oral presentation given by young researchers from various Dutch institutes, we had a clinical focus session with two inspiring lectures by Prof. Harry van Goor (Radboudumc Nijmegen) and dr. Karin Gerritsen (UMC Utrecht). The keynote lecture was held this year by Prof. Alvaro Mata (University of Nottingham) entitled " Supramolecular strategies to turn biomolecules into functional materials and devices ". Additionally, we had an invited contribution by Prof. Raymond Schiffelers (UMC Utrecht) from the Controlled Release Society on Friday morning as the opening lecture. Finally, we organized a Corporate Lunch Event where representatives of dutch companies ( CytoSMART Technologies , HCM Medical , Kuros Biosciences , Medace ) shared their experience in an informal discussion with young researchers.

This year, also the Award for Best Thesis over 2017-2019 was chosen. The thesis committee was comprised of dr. Vito Conte (Eindhoven University of Technology), dr. Jai Prakash (University of Twente), dr. Fang Yang (Radboudumc), dr. Guide Krenning (University of Groningen), and dr. Petra de Graaf (UMC Utrecht) and chose the thesis of dr. Tom Kamperman (University of Twente) as best thesis.

Traditionally, the conference was closed with an award ceremony for best oral presentation, best poster, and best conference chair.

Best PhD Thesis 2017-2019

The thesis of dr. Tom Kamperman (University of Twente) entitled " Microgel Technology to Advance Modular Tissue Engineering " was chosen as best thesis of 2017-2019.

Best presentation

This year, the award committee was led by Maria Lu and the award was given to Ingmar van Hengel (Delft University of Technology) for his presentation entitled: " Additive Manufacturing and Surface Biofunctionalization of Self-Defending Bone Implants ". Congrats!

Best poster

The award for best poster was presented by Leanne de Silva to Bas van Loo (University of Twente) who won the award of best poster for a second time in a row! Well done!

Best chair

Fang Yang handed out the award for best chair to Aysegul Dede (Eindhoven University of Technology)
