RESEARCH OVERVIEW
The Paulusse-group develops nanomaterials for early diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Controlled Drug Delivery
Our uniquely sized polymer nanoparticles in the 5-100 nm size range can encapsulate therapeutics under aqueous conditions, as well as in organic solvent. Moreover, they allow for facile alteration of their surface functionality, giving access to protein mimicking behavior. Current efforts are focused on designing the nanoparticles and evaluating them both in vitro and in vivo, enabling drug delivery and targeted imaging.
Hybrid Imaging Modalities
We have developed new synthesis routes towards silicon nanoparticles, and we are investigating their application as hybrid imaging modality, combining fluorescence and magnetic resonance imaging. High sensitivity multimodal imaging agents can revolutionize medical imaging, by enabling much earlier diagnosis of diseases, expediting their treatment.
